Office Spring Cleaning Tips

Office Spring Cleaning Tips

The change of seasons provides an opportunity to give your office a spring clean. And it doesn’t have to be a dreary chore; it can be used it as a team building exercise, in which everyone shares the responsibility, as well as the rewards.

Here are a few tips to help you get started on Spring Cleaning your workplace:

Get organised

Before the spring cleaning begins, get organised! Make checklists of jobs that need to be done, assign jobs to different people and check what cleaning products and equipment you need. Heatleys has an extensive range of cleaning products to cater to all your spring cleaning needs, such as commercial grade cleaners and disinfectants, hospital grade one-use wipes and brooms, buckets and mops of all sizes.

Disinfect all surfaces

Gone are the days when cleaning simply meant dusting, wiping scuff marks off walls, emptying the rubbish and washing the floors; now, we are all acutely aware of the importance of disinfecting surfaces that people regularly come into contact with. A few years ago, if someone asked, ‘Have you cleaned the whiteboard eraser and markers?’, you probably would’ve thought they were playing a practical joke on you. But, today, we are only too aware of the invisible bacteria and viruses that can survive on these surfaces. Making sure you have products that can effectively kill these pathogens is essential.

Don’t forget that spot

Everyone has that one spot that is hard to reach, easy to forget about or just convenient to ignore. Well, if you’re only going to clean it once a year this is the time to do it. That means it’s time to get a can of condensed air to clean your keyboard – even if you don’t eat lunch at your desk. Apologies if it’s a little gross, but we all shed hair and skin, so everyone’s keyboard could do with a little spring-cleaning TLC.

Don’t forget about the air vents! Grime, dust and dirt accumulates in air vents, especially those used for heating. If there is a lot of dust build-up it can be vacuumed, then soaked and cleaned using hot water, detergent and a good, heavy-duty scrubbing brush.

Re-stock essential supplies

In factories and other heavy industries, cleanliness has always been a health and safety issue. It’s dangerous to leave chemicals lying around or walkways blocked, but we’re now also aware how important it is to maintain a clean office environment. Items like hand sanitiser, soap and paper towel for the bathrooms, disinfectant spray for daily use, disposable facemasks and air purifiers are now just as essential in offices as desks, computers and printers. The annual spring clean is the ideal time to re-stock all these items to ensure the office is always a safe and hygienic place for all employees.

Implement sustainable practices

Everyone has a role to play when it comes to making decisions and implementing environmentally friendly practices. One of the easiest things workplaces can do in this regard is have a a recycling program that everyone understands and is easy to follow. That means, for example, having separate bins for food waste, recyclables and non-recyclables. But this should only be the tip of the iceberg: ink cartages can be re-filled, coffee grindings make great compost and old electrical equipment can be broken up and re-purposed for parts. The annual spring clean is a great time to brainstorm how your office can become more sustainable.
